    January 2021 Dissertation Writing Workshop

Monday, January 11, 2021 at 8:30 AM until Friday, January 15, 2021 at 4:30 PMCentral Standard Time UTC -06:00

We're aware that now, more than ever, people are finding it hard to write at home, and dissertation writing, which can already feel somewhat isolating, might seem even more overwhelming. This online workshop is a time for you all to step into your protected writing spaces, with a community of dissertation writers, and the support of faculty and graduate writing facilitators.

This workshop will allow for you to write for big blocks of time, learn practical and effective strategies for writing and completing longer projects, including writing routines and writing groups, make meaningful and significant process on your dissertation, enjoy the community and support of like-minded scholars and writers, and receive evidence-based strategies for completing a dissertation.

The Dissertation Writing Workshop is a week-long session that focuses on building your argument/case in your dissertation. You'll have plenty of time to write, with access to facilitators from the Writing Center and librarians providing insight on topics like effective literature searches and intellectual property considerations. You'll also become part of a writing accountability group.

The writing accountability groups will continue to meet ~monthly four times throughout the semester to facilitate progress on students' dissertations.

Participants are required to attend all five of the all-day workshop sessions (8:30 AM-4:30 PM each day) and all of the accountability sessions to be eligible for a $300 participation award. Participants failing to attend all of the workshop sessions and all of the accountability sessions will be charged a $100 non-participation fee to their bursar account.

Students who apply for the workshop require their advisor’s confirmation that they are ready to initiate writing of their dissertation. Students should have data in hand and be ready to write.

    Workshop requirements:
